Australia and Sri Lanka have formally strengthened governance ties through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Australian Electoral Commission and the Election Commission of Sri Lanka in Colombo on 2 September 2026. Key Highlights: • Partnership Focus: Deepens practical cooperation, capacity building, and expertise exchange in election management, institutional frameworks, and administration. • Strategic Context: Enhances democratic governance and public institutional capacity between the two Indian Ocean neighbors as they approach 80 years of bilateral relations. • Key Representation: Signed in the presence of Australian High Commissioner Matthew Duckworth, AEC Acting Assistant Commissioner Melinda Vernon, and Sri Lanka Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake.
