The Bank of Ceylon (BOC) has officially launched "BOC Flex – Tap & Pay," marking the country’s first mobile banking wallet-based contactless payment solution. Introduced on July 9, 2026, the feature integrates virtual card technology into the BOC Flex app to enable cardless transactions at NFC-enabled Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals and online merchants. • Core Innovation: Combines a digital wallet with a Virtual Card ecosystem. Customers can manage up to three virtual cards, instantly suspend or reactivate them via self-service, and utilize an Auto Top-Up feature linked directly to their BOC accounts. • National Alignment: The solution supports Sri Lanka's transition toward a cash-lite economy, fostering financial inclusion and backing the government's Digital Economy agenda. • Strategic Sector Impact: Accelerates local ICT/BPM and digital financial infrastructure adoption by migrating traditional cash handling into a secure, digitized framework. • Global & Local Recognition: The underlying BOC Flex platform—originally launched in March 2025—recently secured three accolades at the Digital CX Awards 2026 in Singapore, becoming the first Sri Lankan banking application to achieve this specific international recognition.
