🏛️ Cabinet Approves Compensation & Security Reforms After Negombo Prison Clashes

• Relief Package Approved: The Cabinet has authorized special compensation for prison officers killed or injured during the Negombo Prison clashes on 5–6 July 2026, following recommendations from a Justice Ministry-led committee. • Compensation Structure: - Rs. 5 million each for officers who died or suffered total disability. - Rs. 4 million for officers with partial disability (up to 100% earning capacity). - Rs. 3 million for temporarily partially disabled officers. - Payments will be made in addition to standard Public Administration Circular No. 22/93 coverage. • Institutional Reforms: Approval granted to strengthen the Prison Tactical Force by amending the Prisons Ordinance to establish legal status, expand recruitment, provide specialized training, supply modern equipment, and set up a dedicated headquarters.
