š Cabinet Approves Extension of Education Reforms to Grades 2 & 6 by 2027
Sri Lanka's Cabinet has approved expanding ongoing national education reforms to Grades 2 and 6 starting in 2027, following initial implementation in Grade 1 this year. ⢠Implementation Strategy & Policy Framework: ⢠Approved based on concept papers and policy guidelines prepared by the National Education Commission (NEC) and the National Institute of Education (NIE). ⢠The revised National Curriculum Framework received formal approval from the National Steering Committee on 13 August. ⢠Governed across five focus areas: curriculum reform, human resource development, education administration & infrastructure, evaluation & assessment, and public awareness. ⢠Operational & Training Readiness: ⢠Preparation of activity books, teacher guides (Grades 1, 2), and modules (Grade 6) is underway across all three academic terms. ⢠The NIE has completed training for master trainers in primary and secondary subjects, with provincial teacher training plans currently being finalized. ⢠A new Policy Guide on School-Based Evaluation and Assessment has been established to align assessment methods with existing school system resources.
