Cabinet Approves New Passenger Ferry for Delft-Jaffna Route Under "Prajashakthi" Program 🛳️

• Project Overview: The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the construction of a passenger sea ferry for the Delft-Jaffna marine route to resolve safe transport challenges between the Jaffna mainland and outer islands. • Capacity & Manufacturing: Manufactured by Cinor Foundation Ltd, the vessel will be able to transport approximately 150 passengers at a time. • Operations & Livelihood: The ferry will be operated by the Delft Development Society under the Department of Samurdhi Development. • Economic & Regional Impact: All income generated from the ferry service will directly support the fisheries and coastal economy by funding livelihood development programs for low-income residents and members of the local society in Delft. • Administrative Approval: The proposal was submitted by the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources and announced by Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
