• Macroprudential Measures Remain: Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe confirmed that Loan-to-Value (LTV) restrictions on lending for motor vehicles and gold-backed loans will remain in place. • Vehicle Import Surcharge: There is currently no indication that the Government intends to change or suspend the motor vehicle import surcharge. • Policy Jurisdiction: Retaining or removing the surcharge remains a policy decision under the Finance Ministry—to be made in consultation with the CBSL—rather than a direct CBSL decision. • Financial Stability Focus: The continued LTV limits serve as macroprudential measures intended to promote prudent lending across the banking & finance sector, enhance risk management, and safeguard overall financial system stability.
