🔒 ComBank Pioneers 3DS Authentication for UnionPay in South Asia

Source

• Digital Banking Milestone: Commercial Bank of Ceylon (ComBank) has become the first financial institution in Sri Lanka and the South Asian region to introduce advanced 3-D Secure (3DS 2.x) authentication for UnionPay e-commerce transactions. • Enhanced Security: The upgrade integrates UnionPay cards into the Bank’s Access Control Server (ACS) platform, empowering cardholders to shop securely across millions of global e-commerce merchants with top-tier fraud protection. • Smart Verification: The system introduces Risk-Based Authentication (RBA) to evaluate transactions in real time: • _Low-risk transactions_ proceed through a fast, frictionless flow. • _Higher-risk transactions_ trigger a step-up verification, sending a One-Time Password (OTP) to the cardholder's registered mobile and email. • Ecosystem Impact: The integration expands Sri Lanka's digital payment ecosystem and unifies ComBank's e-commerce security architecture without requiring complex backend changes or affecting existing card networks. The project successfully cleared rigorous information systems audits and met UnionPay’s strict certification standards.
