The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) has launched the next phase of "Creative Sri Lanka 2030," a national initiative aimed at converting the island's traditional craftsmanship into high-value, globally competitive commercial brands. • Strategic Alignment & Targets: Aligns with the National Export Development Plan 2026–2030 (targeting US$ 36 Bn in total exports) to drive export diversification and value addition. • Sector Objective: Targets a 10% increase in export revenues from creative industries by 2028–2029 while driving job creation, particularly for youth and women. • Implementation Model: Uses a private-sector-led "Umbrella Model" covering 10 selected umbrella brands across handicrafts, lifestyle products, and giftware. • SME & Artisan Ecosystem: Clusters 40–50 SMEs as support suppliers around the 10 core brands, alongside developing 50 secondary SME manufacturers. • Pilot Success & Global Markets: Expands on a pilot phase supported by the EU and British Council that secured export orders from Germany, Denmark, and the UK. • International Exposure: Local exporters will participate in major trade fairs, including the Ambiente Gifts exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany (early 2027). • Global Scope: Capitalizes on a US$ 2 Trillion global creative economy, utilizing local foundations in art, fashion, design, architecture, cuisine, and heritage.
