🌱 Delft Island to be Developed as Sri Lanka’s First Zero Emission Eco-Tourism Destination

The Government of Sri Lanka has initiated plans to transform Delft Island into the country's flagship Zero Emission destination, focusing on sustainability, environmental conservation, and heritage preservation. • Strategic Vision & Objective: - Aims to unlock the island's untapped tourism potential for both domestic and international visitors. - Positions eco-tourism and sustainable tourism as model frameworks to promote renewable solutions nationwide. • Priority Infrastructure & Community Focus: - Infrastructure Upgrades: Essential improvements to water supply, road networks, transportation, and island accessibility. - Community Empowerment: Enhancing knowledge and hospitality skills among local residents to support community-based livelihoods. - Asset Preservation: Protecting unique Dutch-era ruins, archaeological landmarks, and wild horses while establishing eco-friendly practices. • Stakeholder Engagement: - Led by Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe alongside Jaffna District representatives, local authorities, government officials, and the local community. - Supported by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB).
