The Government has approved Rs. 95 Bn in concessionary interest loans for 2026—the highest allocation in Sri Lanka’s history—according to Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe. • Overall SME Allocation: Rs. 25 Bn set aside for small and medium enterprises (turnover under Rs. 1 Bn). • Beneficiary Count: 2,569 businesses qualified under the scheme as of August. • Disbursement Breakdown: • Micro-enterprises: Rs. 5.7 Bn • Small enterprises: Rs. 16 Bn total (inclusive of micro-enterprise loans) • Medium-scale businesses: Rs. 3.7 Bn disbursed across 169 firms (turnover Rs. 350 Mn – Rs. 1 Bn) • Regional Distribution: Broadly mirrors national GDP distribution; reviewed monthly by the Finance Ministry and Ministry officials. • Policy Governance: Loan recipients will be ineligible for additional concessionary financing under the scheme for three years to allow access for new applicants.
