The Sri Lankan Government has officially extended the temporary 50% surcharge on Customs Import Duty for selected motor vehicle imports through 31 December 2026. • Scope & Coverage: Applies to both General and Preferential Customs Import Duties on selected passenger and goods vehicles, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles. • Gazette Notification: Issued under Extraordinary Gazette No. 2501/88 (dated 13 August) by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. • Exemptions & Conditions: - Vehicles with Letters of Credit (LCs) established on or before 15 May 2026 are generally exempt. - Surcharge will apply if LC details are subsequently amended (including vehicle count, VINs, descriptions, technical specs, or expiry dates). - Surcharge applies if the shipped-on-board date on the Bill of Lading or Airway Bill is after 15 November 2026.
