🏗️ INSEE Cement & CCI Partner to Upskill 100 Sri Lankan Masons with NVQ Certification

Source

The Chamber of Construction Industry (CCI) Sri Lanka and Siam City Cement (Lanka) PLC (INSEE) signed an MoU on July 13, 2026, to provide National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) certification to 100 masons. • The Context: Over 80% of tradesmen currently working at construction sites in Sri Lanka lack any formal skills certification, leading to a lack of common quality standards and norms across the industry. • The Approach: The program utilizes the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) method. This allows experienced, informal workers—who typically entered the industry as helpers to Baas Unnahas—to secure national qualifications without attending traditional trade schools. • Industry Impact: Bringing tradesmen under a single certification umbrella aims to drive uniformity and establish proper work standards. It opens paths for local career progression and equips workers with recognized credentials for better-paying employment opportunities abroad. • Sponsorship & Facilities: Initiated by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, INSEE Cement is acting as the primary benefactor for masons, tilers, and plasterers by providing tools, materials, and facilities in Galle, Puttalam, and Colombo free of charge. The program is co-sponsored by the HWK Chamber of Skilled Crafts Frankfurt-Rhine-Main.
