• Regulatory Mandate: The Government has made Sri Lanka Standards (SLS) compliance mandatory for imported passenger car tyres and pneumatic tyres for three-wheeled motor vehicles, effective 1 January, 2027. • Gazette Notification: Promulgated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, No. 1 of 1969 via Extraordinary Gazette No. 2508/27 on 1 October, 2026. • Applicable Standards & HS Codes: • Passenger car tyres (HS Code 4011.10.90): Must comply with SLS 1212. • Three-wheeler pneumatic tyres (HS Code 4011.90.10): Must comply with SLS 1347. • Implementation: Applies to all applicable shipments arriving at any Sri Lankan port or airport on or after 1 January, 2027, amending earlier 2024 quality control regulations.
