🎓 National Educator Awards 2025 Recognizes Excellence in Human Capital
The National Educator Awards 2025 concluded recently, honoring outstanding contributions to Sri Lanka's education sector. The event emphasized the role of educators in developing the nation’s human capital and driving long-term economic development. • Higher Education Sector: 15 winners were selected from 35 applicants across diverse disciplines, including Engineering, Computing, Business and Management, Applied Sciences, and Law. Evaluation criteria mirrored UGC standards for professor appointments, focusing on scholarly work and teaching performance. • General Education Sector: 25 winners were recognized out of 166 applications. The awards ensured nationwide representation by honoring three educators from each of the nine provinces, focusing on community engagement and educational innovation. • Lifetime Achievement: Prof. Sujatha Hewage received the Lifetime Award for her extensive service to the discipline of Chemistry and her contributions to the University of Colombo and the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon. • Economic Context: The awards underscore the importance of strengthening the Education & ICT/BPM talent pipeline, which remains critical for Sri Lanka’s workforce competitiveness and service-led economic growth.
