The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) marked World Investor Week 2026 and the CSE's 40th anniversary with market opening bell ceremonies presided over by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. ⢠Key Initiatives & Launches: ⢠Launched the Stock Market Game, an online ATrad-based stock simulation tool to boost practical investment skills among youth, university students, and 100 school Capital Market Clubs. ⢠Released a commemorative stamp and First Day Cover celebrating 40 years of the CSE. ⢠Rolled out island-wide campaigns across 14 locations aiming to open 10,000 new CDS accounts and expand retail investor participation. ⢠Market & Economic Landscape: ⢠National financial literacy stands at around 58%, yet capital market participation remains vastly underutilized. ⢠Out of ~200,000 registered companies nationwide, only 291 companies are listed on the CSE, highlighting massive growth potential for Sri Lanka's capital market expansion and diversification. ⢠Government Focus: ⢠The government reiterated its commitment to moving beyond traditional savings schemes to build investor confidence, broaden financial inclusion, and unlock capital market opportunities for younger generations.
