⚖️ Proposed 22nd Amendment Gazetted to Boost Judicial Capacity
• Supreme Court & Court of Appeal Reforms: - Supreme Court judge retirement age raised to 67. Chief Justice to retire at 67 or after 6 years in office, whichever is earlier. - Court of Appeal judge retirement age raised to 65. Maximum judge count increased from 19 to 24. • Lower Judiciary Expansion: - High Court judge capacity expanded from 110 to 120, with retirement age increased from 61 to 63. - Retirement age for all other judges and magistrates fixed at 62 via the Judicature (Amendment) Bill. • Objective & Outlook: - Amendments aim to enhance judicial efficiency and address legal capacity in Sri Lanka. Both Bills are awaiting presentation to Parliament for debate and approval.
