The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) has registered an agreement with Sahasdhanavi Ltd. to develop a $ 291.19 Mn combined-cycle power plant at Kerawalapitiya. • Investment Breakdown: Total project capital of $ 291.19 Mn comprises $ 90 Mn in equity, $ 196.19 Mn in debt, and $ 5 Mn from other sources, directed towards fixed assets and working capital. • Project Scale & Phasing: The 350 MW plant will be built on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model over 42 months. Phase I delivers 243 MW (LNG) or 213 MW (diesel), and Phase II adds 107 MW (LNG) or 105 MW (diesel). • Energy Strategy: The plant will initially run on diesel before shifting to re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), boosting grid reliability as Sri Lanka expands its clean energy mix. • Hub Capacity: Together with Sobadhanavi (350 MW) and Yugadhanavi (300 MW), Kerawalapitiya’s total generation capacity will reach ~1,000 MW. • Employment & Economic Impact: Expected to create 1,147 direct jobs alongside demand for engineering, procurement, logistics, and manufacturing services.
