The newly appointed 15-member Salary and Pension Commission, established by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, officially commenced its work following its inaugural meeting yesterday under the chairmanship of Telge Ashoka Peiris. ⢠Core Mandate: Tasked with recommending equitable solutions to long-standing salary and pension anomalies affecting public sector employees and retirees. The recommendations aim to provide long-term relief to the financial challenges faced by public servants. ⢠Structural Reforms: The commission is mandated to propose measures that enhance the professionalism and attractiveness of public sector employment. Additionally, it will identify necessary structural reforms to align Sri Lanka's public service with modern technologies and evolving global trends. ⢠Composition & Timeline: Appointed via a special gazette notification on 22 June, the commission consists of 15 members drawn from various administrative and professional backgrounds to ensure a comprehensive approach to public service modernization.
