📈 Sept. Tea National Sales Average Rises Past Rs. 1,200/kg

Sri Lanka’s tea national sales average (NSA) gained in September 2026 in rupee terms, driven primarily by strong performance in Low Grown teas, according to Forbes & Walker Research and Sri Lanka Tea Board data. • Overall National Performance • September NSA: Rs. 1,202.74 (US$ 3.65) per kg. • MoM Change: Up Rs. 28.28 (+US$ 0.12) from August (Rs. 1,174.46 / US$ 3.53). • YoY Change: Up Rs. 11.12 from Sept 2025 (Rs. 1,191.62), though down US$ 0.29 in dollar terms (from US$ 3.94). • YTD (Jan–Sept): Rs. 1,170.20 (US$ 3.63), up Rs. 9.64 YoY, but down US$ 0.25 in dollar terms. • Elevation Breakdown (September) • Low Grown: Led gains at Rs. 1,310.05 (US$ 3.98) — up Rs. 33.22 MoM and Rs. 58.21 YoY (the only elevation to record a YoY rupee gain). • High Grown: Stood at Rs. 1,070.05 (US$ 3.25) — up Rs. 12.99 MoM, but down steepest YoY by Rs. 85.71 (-US$ 0.57). • Medium Grown: Stood at Rs. 956.96 (US$ 2.90) — up Rs. 2.14 MoM, but down Rs. 70.58 YoY. • Cumulative YTD Elevation Trends • Rupee Variance: High Grown (+Rs. 21.33) and Low Grown (+Rs. 19.16) recorded positive gains YoY, while Medium Grown dropped (-Rs. 45.13). • Dollar Variance: All three elevations fell YTD in US$ terms (High Grown -US$ 0.20, Medium Grown -US$ 0.39, Low Grown -US$ 0.24).
