SLCPI Pledges Rs. 50 Million for Post-Disaster National Recovery 📈
The Sri Lanka Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry (SLCPI) has donated Rs. 50 million to the Government’s ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund. The contribution was presented to Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa to support national recovery and essential infrastructure following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. • Financial Impact & Purpose The donation aims to ensure healthcare services continue without disruption. It joins a national fund that has now surpassed Rs. 8.5 billion in local contributions and US$ 9.49 million in foreign aid to address widespread infrastructure damage. • Sector Significance As the apex body for the pharmaceutical sector, SLCPI represents over 70 member companies (importers, manufacturers, and retailers). The industry is a cornerstone of the economy, collectively accounting for: Over 80% of the island’s private pharmaceutical market. 80,000+ direct jobs and nearly 400,000 indirect livelihoods. • Strategic Resilience The contribution supports the Ministry’s disaster management activities, focusing on restoring resilience across the health system while maintaining the supply of essential medicines during the recovery period. _Note: Figures based on provisional data as of January 2026._
