📈 Sri Lanka GDP Expands 4.2% YoY in Q2 2026 Driven by Industry and Services
Sri Lanka’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.2% year-on-year in Q2 2026, supported by strong industrial expansion despite Middle East tensions and sub-par tourism performance. • Overall Growth & Totals • Real GDP (at 2015 constant prices) reached Rs. 3,029,816 Mn vs. Rs. 2,908,570 Mn in Q2 2025 (+4.2% YoY). • Nominal GDP (at current prices) rose 11.3% YoY to Rs. 8,254,176 Mn. • Sector Performers & Breakdown • Industrial Activities: Up +7.3% YoY, led by mining & quarrying (+17.4%), construction (+13.9%), and overall manufacturing (+3.2%). Accounted for 25.9% of GDP. • Services Activities: Up +2.7% YoY, driven by IT programming & consultancy (+10.0%), insurance & pension funding (+8.0%), and financial services (+7.7%). Accounted for 52.7% of GDP. • Agricultural Activities: Contracted by -2.3% YoY due to sharp declines in freshwater fishing (-61.0%), rice growing (-15.1%), sugarcane & tobacco (-14.7%), and marine fishing (-10.1%). Accounted for 8.4% of GDP. Taxes less subsidies on products made up the remaining 13.0% share of GDP.
