🤝 Sri Lanka & Indonesia Hold Inaugural Political Consultations, Sign Bilateral Dialogue MoU

Sri Lanka and Indonesia held their inaugural Political Consultations in Colombo on September 22, 2026, establishing a formal framework to enhance economic and diplomatic ties ahead of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. Key highlights from the meeting: • Economic & Trade Growth: Both nations agreed to boost trade and investment, focusing on apparel & textiles, pharmaceuticals, and minerals, alongside strengthening business community connectivity. • Sectoral Cooperation: Discussions covered agricultural collaboration (specifically fertiliser supply), fisheries, tourism expansion, visa easing, and defense/maritime security. • Regional Integration: Sri Lanka requested Indonesia’s support for its bid to join the ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partnership (SDP) and accede to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). • Future Engagement: Joint celebrations are planned for 2027, with the 2nd Round of Consultations scheduled for 2028 in Jakarta.
