🌊 Sri Lanka Signs $4.5Mn Coastal Biodiversity Pact with UNDP
• Agreement Details: Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Environment and the UNDP have signed a 5-year, US$ 4.507 Mn grant agreement funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). • Regional Scope: Project targets critical ecosystems and coastal regions across Ampara, Batticaloa, and Hambantota districts. • Core Objectives: Focuses on conserving biodiversity, enhancing ecosystem resilience, and driving nature-based economic opportunities to build climate resilience and support community livelihoods. • Key Initiatives: - Strengthening institutional capacity & governance for landscape and seascape management. - Improving sustainable financing for nature-based solutions. - Demonstrating ecosystem-based management across coastal and marine areas. - Promoting awareness, knowledge sharing, and gender mainstreaming.
