Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath concluded a 2-day official visit to Thailand (14ā16 Sept 2026), signing key pacts to broaden bilateral ties and worker mobility. ⢠Key Agreements: Signed a MoU on Labour Cooperation and MoA on the Employment of Sri Lankan Workers, creating 10,000 job openings for Sri Lankans. ⢠Foreign Employment: Expands access to skilled jobs and diversifies Sri Lanka's overseas labour markets while establishing structured recruitment and welfare safeguards. ⢠Tourism Sector: Engaged Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to share best practices in destination promotion, tech integration, and cultural heritage promotion. ⢠Bilateral & Trade Links: Held talks on visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders, economic investments, maritime security, and private sector business opportunities.
