📈 Sri Lanka to Launch First Digital ID by Year-End in Digital Economy Push
• Macro Transformation: Progress reviewed under the Ministry of Digital Economy to expand Sri Lanka’s digital economy target to US$ 30 Bn by 2030. President instructed establishing the IT Service as an All-Island Service to drive national digitisation. • Key Initiatives & Digital ID: • The first digital identity card is scheduled to be issued by the end of 2026, handled by the Department for Registration of Persons. • All vehicle fine payments nationwide will move exclusively online starting September 2026. • Deployment of the National Super App, National QR Drive, GovPay, and National Data Exchange (NDX) to streamline public service delivery. • Infrastructure & Tech Upgrades: Progress evaluated for the AI Data Centre, Data Transmission Unit, GovTech Academy, and Number Portability for mobile networks. Focus spans key institutions including TRCSL, SLCERT, Data Protection Authority, and Telecom-Mobitel.
