The Cabinet of Ministers has approved entering into a bilateral prisoner transfer agreement with the Republic of Poland, facilitating the repatriation of convicted citizens to serve their sentences in their respective home countries. ⢠Key Objective: Supports the rehabilitation and reintegration of convicted nationals into their home societies while serving the remainder of their prison sentences. ⢠Legal Framework: Executed under Sri Lanka's Transfer of Offenders Act No. 5 of 1995, which enables reciprocal repatriation of foreign nationals sentenced in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankans imprisoned abroad. ⢠Government Submission: The formal proposal was presented to the Cabinet by Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara.
