Sterling Automobiles has formally entered Sri Lanka’s electric vehicle (EV) sector by launching two new electric models as the authorized distributor, debuted at the Colombo EV Motor Show 2026. The move leverages Sterling's established aftercare network to boost local ownership confidence. Vehicle Segment Breakdowns: • Livan RL8: A 7-seater electric MPV designed for families, manufactured via a joint venture under the Geely ecosystem. It offers a range of up to 430 km per charge and is positioned as the most affordable 7-seater EV in its category. • Henrey MinCar: A practical, low-carbon urban EV manufactured by Henan Henrey Automobile Technology. Designed for daily commuting, first-time buyers, and 4-wheel ride-hailing/delivery opportunities, it provides a range of up to 285 km with fast-charging capabilities. Economic & Operational Impact: • Running Costs: The Henrey MinCar is positioned as one of the country's most affordable EVs, featuring an estimated running cost of approximately Rs. 4.00 per kilometre. • Support Ecosystem: Adoption of both international brands will be heavily backed by the Sterling Aftercare ecosystem, which covers localized technical expertise, widespread maintenance support, and long-term warranty coverage to mitigate primary consumer concerns surrounding local EV infrastructure.
