š Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service Marks 10 Years of Service
⢠Milestone & Scale: The 1990 Suwa Seriya emergency network celebrated its 10th anniversary since launching in 2016. It now responds to ~1,000 daily incidents, covers nearly 30,000 km daily, and maintains an average emergency response time of under 13 minutes. ⢠Establishment & Funding: Spearheaded by MP Dr. Harsha de Silva, the service was initially established through a US$ 23 Mn grant from the Government of India, supported by Indian PM Narendra Modi and former Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe. ⢠Operations & Human Capital: The service currently relies on over 1,500 staff members. Operations are now being overseen by a new management team appointed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to further strengthen Sri Lanka's primary emergency medical response network.
