β’ Lulu Group Chairman Yusuff Ali MA spearheaded UAE residents' aid for cyclone-hit Sri Lanka, donating Rs. 32 million (US$ 100,000) to the national relief and recovery fund. β’ Other significant contributions include: β’ Tristar Group CEO Eugene Mayne: Rs. 25 million (Dh 300,000) β’ Sri Lankan Quantity Surveyors in the UAE (SLQS-UAE): Rs. 8.5 million β’ Sri Lankan Professionals Association (SLPA): Rs. 5.5 million β’ Sri Lankan missions in the UAE are sending tons of relief materials, with two 40-foot containers and nearly 10 tons of air cargo dispatched. β’ The UAE Government's support has been "unprecedented," including 9 flights and a recovery team that assisted in locating missing persons. β’ Cyclone Ditwah has caused widespread devastation: β’ 635 lives lost, 192 people still missing (potential total up to 800-900). β’ 1.76 million people affected. β’ 5,300 houses completely destroyed, 81,000 partially damaged. β’ 69,800 people from 22,000 families are in 690 safety centres. β’ Sri Lankaβs government is urging financial support for rebuilding efforts, including infrastructure projects like schools.
